At Buttle, we welcome the increases to minimum wage, national living wage, a commitment to tackling the gender pay gap and support for energy bills, including the £100 household energy payment. But what happens after this winter? According to The Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the average household incomes will fall by £450 by April 2029.

The measures announced in the Autumn Budget do not go far enough. There are over 4 million children in poverty across the UK. Everyday we give grants to these families, trying to bridge that gap, but without bigger changes, our work will never be done.

Kevin Munday, CEO at Buttle said,

“We would love to be able to share that the autumn budget will make a huge difference for the families we support everyday, but realistically we can’t. Every day the Buttle team see the impact that poverty and crisis have on the lives of children and young people. It affects their ability to engage in education, develop meaningful friendships, be healthy and have dreams and aspirations. No matter how fast we respond, or how many beds, toys, laptops or school uniforms we provide, families need more support to lift them out of poverty, for the sake of their children’s futures.”
