Boarding Chances for Children report 2020-2021
In the 2020-21 academic year, 107 pupils were supported by Boarding Chances for Children. We are delighted to present this year’s Boarding Chances for Children Impact Report.
In this, we report on the results of those who finished boarding school in the 2020-21 academic year, as well as the changes to educational engagement, attainment and social and emotional wellbeing for all of the boarding cohort. These are taken from the annual survey sent to parents and carers of these children and young people, to help us understand the impact of boarding grants for these recipients. We also have the great privilege of presenting unique insights directly from our boarding grantees, following recent interviews with them.
The academic achievements of these students demonstrate grades that are above the national average, with all exam finishers continuing on to further or higher education. Students speak highly of the boarding environment, describing excellent support, facilities and opportunities. Parents and carers too reported improvements in their children’s confidence, empathy, physical health, engagement with education and overall wellbeing, as well as feedback on the positive changes to their own wellbeing, family relationships and their capacity to provide care. This demonstrates the holistic benefits of a grant for boarding. We would like to express our gratitude to the parents, carers and especially the young people who contributed to this report. Without their insights and responses to surveys, we wouldn’t be able to understand the difference that the Boarding Chances for Children programme made in 2020-21.
