Buttle UK’s Accessibility Features

In this blog, written by our Grants Development Officer Janitah, we review the accessibility features available for you to use on our website.

As a Grants Development Officer, I regularly speak to families and referrers about our grants and the criteria. This can include queries over the phone, emails or in person during outreach sessions.

Through these interactions it’s important that I make sure I share the information in the best way possible for it to be understood, as everyone learns, understands and processes information differently. To recognise and support individual differences Buttle UK have added Recite Me technology to our website and on the grant application screen.

Recite Me is an accessibility tool that allows users to customise features on the website in a way that works best for them to enhance the users experience. Recite Me can be accessed on the Buttle UK website by clicking on the Accessibility tools tab in the top right had corner of the screen.

The features of the technology include:

Screen reader

  • Will read out the text on the screen and provides the option to download the audio file.

Reading aids

  • Includes a ruler, screen mask, dictionary and magnifying glass

Styling and customisation

  • Allows you to change the font size, style and line spacing. You can also change the colour theme of the text and background

Translation

  • This can change the language of the text and for some languages it can read out loud in the selected language

Additional features include

  • Changing the speed in which the text is read and the gender of the person reading it

Once the settings have been adjusted, they are automatically saved so that you don’t have to reset them each time you access the site. It’s important that visitors to our website are aware of the accessibility tools should they need to use them.

If you have used the accessibility tools on our website, please let us know about your experience.
