Cuts to disability benefits will undoubtably worsen child poverty

In response to the Government’s green paper on disability and sickness benefits and the Secretary for Work and Pensions’ speech, Buttle CEO Joseph Howes had this to say:
“Cutting disability benefits will undoubtedly worsen child poverty. Almost half (51%) of families supported by frontline workers have a parent/carer with a physical illness or disability. These are the families that we help everyday through our grants. They are already struggling, they cannot afford any cuts to their income.”
A Frontline Worker in Kent , England stated this in our most recent research:
“Children who have not slept well due to being cold from not having enough to pay for gas, or due to overcrowding, as well as children who come to school hungry because they do not have enough food in the house, struggle through the school day”
