Reflecting on Five Years of Impact: Celebrating the Success of Buttle UK’s 2020–2025 Strategy
As we close the chapter on our 2020–2025 strategy, we’re proud to reflect on a period defined by ambition, resilience and measurable impact for the children and young people we serve. Over the past five years, Buttle UK has gone beyond expectations, delivering on our mission to support children and young people in crisis and poverty across the UK.
Creating Chances for Children 2.0 for more children in crisis
Through our Chances for Children grants, we supported over 27,000 children and young people, surpassing our original target of 25,000! We also significantly improved our efficiency, more than doubling the amount in grants each Grants Development Officer delivers and reducing the time it takes to award a grant. The value of our grants has increased to reflect need, and our application process is now simpler and more inclusive.
Co-production & Accountability
Co-production has been a cornerstone of this strategy. We launched our Youth Advisory Panel and Advisor Network, embedding lived experience into our operations, strategy, and fundraising. While there’s still more to do, we’ve made meaningful strides in shifting power and amplifying the voices of children and young people in our work.
Collaborating to maximise the breadth and impact of our support
Collaboration has also played a critical role. We led the creation of the Grantmakers’ Alliance, worked closely with Turn2Us and Smallwood Trust, and worked with the End Child Poverty Coalition to advocate for children in poverty. Our partnership with the Domestic Abuse Commissioner’s Office marks another important milestone in using data and lived experience to influence systems.
Income Growth
Our income has grown from £1.48 million to £5 million, thanks to the tireless work of our fundraising team and generous support from partners, donors and trusts. Developing new corporate partnerships and testing individual giving has been ongoing and we’re looking forward to continuing development in these areas.
Know, Learn, Lead (KLL): Building a Future-Ready Team
We’ve empowered staff through shared leadership, strategic learning, and inclusive decision-making. KLL has become an active committee shaping employment and culture. By valuing expertise, investing in learning systems, and strengthening governance, we’re building a future-ready team that’s flexible, consistent, and engaged in driving our mission forward.
